DISAPPEARS INTO THE NIGHT

2 September 2024–11 October 2024

Pirita Leisure Centre Gallery

Tallinn, Estonia

A series of paintings inspired by the theatre, exploring the themes of memory and transience.

"DISAPPEARING INTO THE NIGHT" is a partial exhibition of Toomas Pikhof’s collection of 54 paintings, entitled “UNFORGETTABLE. Shades Inspired by the Art of Theatre”.
The paintings in the exhibition form a distinct whole, offering the viewer an emotional and sensory theatrical journey through abstract painting towards unforgettable experiences born of the art of theatre. These moments, captured as visual impressions, embody the psychological drama, historical novels and tragic love stories, emphasising the importance of the theatrical arts in shaping a person’s emotional development. All the paintings in the collection were inspired by popular productions familiar to the public. The artist has worked at the Estonian Youth Theatre and the Estonian Drama Theatre for a total of 15 years and has been part of the creative teams behind new productions. Each season saw the creation of 12–14 new productions at the theatre. It was a fascinating and colourful period that has left a lasting impression on the artist. That is why all the paintings in the exhibition are dedicated to directors, set designers, actors and all those who work in this exciting world unseen – that is, behind the scenes.
