UNFORGETTABLE. Nuances inspired by the art of theatre
"UNFORGETTABLE. Shades Inspired by the Art of Theatre" is, at its core, an emotional and sensory journey from the art of theatre to unforgettable experiences, as conveyed through abstract painting.
Toomas Pikhof’s fourth solo exhibition, comprising 54 paintings, “UNFORGETTABLE. Shades Inspired by the Art of Theatre”, is, at its core, an emotional and sensory journey from the art of theatre to unforgettable experiences, conveyed through abstract painting. These moments, captured as visual impressions, embody the psychological drama, historical novels and tragic love stories, emphasising the importance of theatre in shaping human development.
The exhibition is dedicated, with deep gratitude, to the much-loved director Priit Pedajas, whose creative work has had an invaluable influence on human emotional development. Pedajas’s productions are all independent works of art, as he never tackles a theme intended to affect anyone else; rather, it is something that matters to the director himself.
In Toomas Pikhof’s solo exhibition, theatrical experiences are brought to life through paintings inspired by successful productions from the repertoires of the Estonian Youth Theatre and the Estonian Drama Theatre, such as *August*, *Autumn Sonata*, ‘The Icelandic Bell’, ‘Everything Is Full’, ‘Endless Coffee Drinking’, ‘An Hour to Breathe’, ‘Red’, ‘The Story of Jaan Umbi’, ‘The Arbujad’, ‘Artists from the Mines’, ‘The River Flows Through the City’, ‘Metspart’, ‘You Have a Sea of Fear’, ‘Boulgakoff’, ‘Rain Dance’, ‘The Long Day’s Journey into Night’, ‘Porcelain Suit’, ‘At the Last Minute’, ‘Cancún’, ‘The Glowing City’, ‘Blossoming’, ‘Grease’, ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Risk’. The exhibition is brought together by a video installation in which Merle Palmiste (Estonian Drama Theatre) recites poems from Toomas Pikhof’s poetry collection *I Am Burning, Unkissed Kisses*.
The author would like to thank everyone without whose creative work or contribution to the world of theatre this exhibition would not have come into being: Priit Pedajas, Riina Degtjarenko, Merle Palmiste, Merle Karusoo, Ingomar Vihmar, Pille Jänes, Ülle Kaljuste, Lauri Lagle, Kristo Viiding, Sten Karpov, Taavi Teplenkov, Kaie Mihkelson, Viire Valdma, Ain Lutsepp, Rein Oja, Maarit Randrüüt, Inna Narro, Johan Randvere, Hele Kõrve, Kristjan Kasearu, Meelis Pai, Eda Kaljo, Aldo Niilus, Silvia Savik, Meeli Eelmaa, Katrin Roosileht, Anna-Liisa Õispuu, Priit Hummel, Kaire Vilgats, Maite-Margit Kotta, Andres Dvinjaninov, Jaagup Kreem, Andre-Harlet Elvisto.
