MENTAL STATES
A charitable, meditative series of paintings exploring the inner journeys and spiritual experiences of the human soul.
‘States of Mind’ is Toomas Pikhof’s sixth solo exhibition, comprising 13 abstract paintings. The works explore the inner journeys of the human spirit at moments when life casts us into the unknown – into the borderlands of light and shadow, hope and despair, life and death. The artist describes the exhibition as follows: “The paintings speak of shadows and light, of uncertainty, of regret, but also of the joy of life, love and fear – of everything that stirs within our souls when we must step onto the dark path of the unknown, between life and death, and between hope and despair. This exhibition is an invitation to pause, look within ourselves and notice that delicate beauty which becomes visible when we realise just how fragile life is.” The visual world of the exhibition is at once poetic and painful, yet also full of hope – in every work there is a movement from darkness towards light, which ties in directly with the nature of the charitable cause.
The art exhibition is a charity event, and the proceeds from the sale of the paintings will be donated to the ‘Kingitud Elu’ Cancer Treatment Fund. Detailed information on purchasing the paintings via donation can be found on the fund’s website at www.kingitudelu.ee. The Hille Tänavsuu Cancer Treatment Fund ‘Kingitud Elu’ is a privately initiated fund supporting cancer treatment, whose mission is to help cancer patients whose treatment is not considered sufficiently ‘cost-effective’ by the state. The fund helps people to access the modern cancer treatments they urgently need, thereby giving them hope, the chance to live longer, or even to make a full recovery.
