LIMITS OF SENSITIVITY

The painting series explores the most fragile and shifting states of the human inner world. These are moments when feeling is just beginning to emerge or quietly fading away, and the world appears in an exceptionally heightened sensitivity. What comes after sensitivity depends on each individual’s inner strength.

Toomas Pikhof’s fifth solo exhibition, Limits of Sensitivity, consists of 12 abstract paintings depicting different emotional states at the level of human perception. Each work functions as a landscape in which natural visual elements open a refined language of inner experience to the viewer.

These paintings examine moments of emotional transition — states where a feeling is either forming or receding. In these boundary moments, sensitivity is at its most intense: perception deepens, awareness sharpens, yet vulnerability also increases.

The artist uses landscape as a psychological metaphor. Forms, colors, and light do not depict a specific place, but instead create an atmosphere reflecting internal shifts and moods. The works open a space where the viewer can encounter their own inner world.

The exhibition Limits of Sensitivity asks: how far does sensitivity extend before it dissolves into silence, distance, or forgetting?
