Captured within abstract paintings are moments that carry shades of psychological drama, historical narrative, and tragic love stories — reflecting how deeply theatre shapes human inner development. The series is dedicated with gratitude to the beloved Estonian director Priit Pedajas.
The collection The Unforgettable. Shades Empowered by Theatre Art is, in essence, an emotional and sensory journey through unforgettable theatrical experiences translated into abstract painting. These visually preserved moments carry the emotional resonance of psychological drama, historical storytelling, and tragic romance experienced on stage, emphasizing the importance of theatre in shaping human development.
The series is dedicated to Priit Pedajas, whose creative work has had an invaluable impact on the emotional development of audiences. His productions are independent works of art. Their meaning is often subtle and ambivalent, yet the audience remains emotionally engaged. Pedajas does not approach themes meant to impress others, but rather subjects that matter deeply to himself.
The collection is brought to life through paintings inspired by well-known stage productions, including August Month, Swan Song, Island Bell, Everything Is Full, Endless Coffee Drinking, One Hour to Reach the Soul, Red, The Story of Jaan Umbi, The Singers, Miners as Artists, A River Flows Through the City, Wild Duck, You Have a Sea of Fear, Bulgakov, Rain Dance, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, Porcelain Smoke, At the Last Minute, Cancún, Radiant City, Blooming, Grease, Romeo and Juliet, and Risk.
The collection The Unforgettable. Shades Empowered by Theatre Art was first presented from 17 October to 17 November 2024 at the Contemporary Art Gallery of Viimsi Artium.
